Some unofficial phone apps appear to be using GameFAQs as a back-end, but they do not behave like a real web browser does. Using GameFAQs regularly with these browsers can cause temporary and even permanent IP blocks due to these additional requests. To this day I wonder if I should have taken the time to replay the first three quarters of the game again but every time I come to the conclusion that I want to spend my limited time with other stuff. It wasn’t curable so it meant game over for me. However, what killed SE for me at the time was a showstopping bug I encountered pretty late in the game, caused by some seemingly innocuous action earlier. If you like the lush VGA jungle graphics better then SE is the ticket, though. While I generally loved both games – in fact I liked both a bit better than U6 – Savage Empire was a bit weaker than Martian Dreams (which I’d recommend to any history fan/buff) in several respects. Played both Martian Dreams, which I bought because of a very good review and this (lent by a friend – we swapped games to halve costs). Just now playing Ultima VII for the first time. I have to admit, I’ve never actually finished it, but it’s still great fun. (Yes you read that right, I love Ultima IX, too.) SE is just the right thing for a great Allan Quatermain/King Kong/Zulu-esque jungle adventure. He commonly illustrated “savage” type scenes like Conan, etc., so I get the feel that was the sort of vibe Origin was going after with the cover art for The Savage Empire.Īlong with Ultimas V, VI and IX, I love Savage Empire. It seems strange for Origin’s Ultima art team to have depicted women the way they did on Savage Empire’s cover, anyway. By the time I had copies, they already wouldn’t play on my computer’s OS. I was/am a huge Ultima fan, but never got around to playing the two Worlds Of Ultima titles. Pretty solid game, funny moments like some 3 stooges npcs and 2 different love interests.

I’ve played Martian Dreams, the other Worlds of Ultima game, but never The Savage Empire. I love Ultima VI, so it’s excellent that Origin made two spin-off games using the same engine. Meanwhile, the cover remained a one-fist affair.
